QUESTION:  What do you do when you want to freshen your look but aren’t up for a big change? ANSWER:  Unleash Daniel’s bag of tricks! With an artist’s eye for color, he creates subtle movement and interest with highlights, overlay and a five-minute process called “Natural Glisten” that is key for “naturalizing” even the most dramatic color effects. You’ll still look like you — but more polished and vibrant. Bonus: Daniel’s face-framing cut works with hair’s natural part, for fast, simple styling. Recommended Products: Rene Furterer’s Okara Color-Enhancing Radiance shampoo & conditioner.  Rene Furterer’s VOLUMEA conditioning spray helps seal ends & tame fly-aways without weighing hair...

Pixie style

Who says hair needs length to have movement? A fresh clean pixie cut comes alive with the interplay of ever-so-subtly varied shades of brunette, blended upwards into lighter strands of the same palette throughout the crown. Achieved with thoughtful highlighting, overlay and Natural Glisten for that “soft focus effect” over all. Recommended products: For short styles like this one especially, hair benefits from skipping a day — or even more — between shampoos.  Forgoing suds helps extend color & conditioning treatments. Plus, natural oils in hair provide texture, manageability. Rene Furterer’s NATURA dry shampoo instantly cleans hair without water. Absorbs excess oil, odors & impurities. Long-time stylist secret weapon & celebrity favorite....

Emily

Emily loved her punky pink hair color but like all good things, its time had come to an end. She wanted a more versatile look:  something that could be sleek & professional for work — but she still wanted color & length to play with on the weekends. Daniel mixed up a golden-chestnut overlay that shaded her neon highlights to a shimmery natural auburn. Natural Glisten further blended her varied hues and diminished brassiness. Recommended Products: In addition to Rene Furterer’s entire Okara product line for color-treated hair, Rene Furterer’s Vegetal modeling paste is great for experimenting with dramatic styles, especially for short & medium-length hair. This matte-finishing clay  molds, defines, and sets any style for all-day hold & control....

Kim

Kim sought to update the hair color she’d favored for years to a livelier shade, with more depth and sophistication. Good idea! As time passes, changes in hair structure alter how color affects the cuticle. The same golden hues that once flattered Kim’s skin tones might turn ashy or brassy, reflecting hair density changes. Daniel enriched her natural blondish-brown with a warm coppery espresso overlay — a conditioning treatment, not a chemical process. Hair is supple, shiny, youthful, manageable. Natural Glisten softens, lifts and enlivens. A fresh cut frames Kim’s face; parting her hair at a slightly different angle creates more volume at the crown. Recommended products: Rene Furterer’s Okara line for color-treated hair (of course) . Kim’s locks could also benefit from Rene Furterer’s CARTHAME leave-in conditioner with moisturizing milk & “Carthame,” a safflower extract rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E for incredible shine with lightness &...

Patricia

Here we have a “makeunder” — not all transformations occur on the outside.  Cheers for loving your long hair, naturally! Patricia came to us feeling blah about her hair, but not really up for a change. Both she & Daniel agreed her natural honey blonde shade was a winner —  quite lovely and flattering for her complexion. But it could use a bit more… life. Daniel used a clear overlay to coat each strand (and seal the ends) for ultimate condition & shine. Hair’s natural character remains, but with renewed gloss, strength & manageability. Daniel’s trim didn’t remove much length but added the softest, slightest angled layers. This subtle technique highlights Patricia’s delicate features so she’s not lost in sea of luminous locks. So this was more of an “inner” transformation:  from feeling “meh” about a current look to loving it. All it takes is a trained eye like Daniel’s to see where just a smidge of improvement can make all the difference. Recommended products: Rene Furterer’s LISSEA line of smoothing products controls frizz & static while protecting from heat & humidity. Nourishes, moisturizes, volumizes, too — a real godsend for full heads of hair like Patricia’s. (check out our recent blog post “Review Round-Up: Rene Furterer LISSEA” for a summary of independent reviews on these products by popular beauty bloggers and...
